Minecraft Abandoned Camp Explorer Maps Explained

Abandoned Camps are becoming more useful in Minecraft thanks to a new type of Explorer Map. These maps can appear inside camp chests and point you toward other structures or different Abandoned Camp variants. Instead of wandering across the Overworld and hoping to find something interesting, a camp can now give you a clear destination for your next trip.

Where to Find Explorer Maps in Abandoned Camps

Explorer Maps can be found inside chests at Abandoned Camps. You do not need to craft them or trade with a villager first.

Once you find a camp, check every chest carefully. The map you receive can lead to another Abandoned Camp or to one of several larger structures elsewhere in the world.

What Structures Can Explorer Maps Lead To?

In Java testing, Abandoned Camp Explorer Maps can point to several different structures.

These currently include Ancient Cities, Trial Chambers, Mineshafts, Desert Pyramids, Jungle Pyramids, Warm Ocean Ruins, and Woodland Mansions.

This can save a lot of wandering when you are looking for one of Minecraft’s harder-to-find structures.

Bedrock testing currently uses a slightly different destination list, so the exact structures available can vary between versions while the feature is still in development.

Can Explorer Maps Lead to Other Abandoned Camps?

Yes. Some Explorer Maps are designed to lead you toward other Abandoned Camp variants.

In Java testing, possible destinations include camps in Bamboo Jungle, Cherry Grove, Birch Forest, Dappled Forest, Flower Forest, Pale Garden, Swamp, and Windswept Forest biomes.

This gives you a reason to keep visiting camps after finding your first one. Since each biome uses a different camp variation, following one of these maps can lead you to a version you have not seen before.

How to Use an Abandoned Camp Explorer Map

Using the map works much like other Explorer Maps in Minecraft.

Once you pick it up, the map shows the target location and your position in relation to it. Move in the direction of the marked destination until your player marker reaches the area shown on the map.

Some destinations can be far away, so bring enough food and equipment before leaving camp. If the map points toward an Ancient City or another dangerous structure, preparing first can save you from a very short sightseeing trip.

Are Abandoned Camp Explorer Maps Available Yet?

Mojang is currently testing Abandoned Camp Explorer Maps as part of Minecraft’s upcoming game drop.

They were added to Java testing in Snapshot 7 and are also being tested through the current Bedrock Preview cycle.

Since the feature is still in development, possible destinations and other details may change before the full release.

Explorer Maps give you another reason to stop and search every Abandoned Camp you find. A single map can point you toward another camp or a valuable structure, making these small locations much more useful during longer exploration trips.
